Ferguson Gets Burnt And Lives To Tell about It

You could probably guess where I am right now, but I’ll tell you anyway.

I’m in the airport. In the atlanta airport to be exact.

I had one heckuva weekend in Miami coaching and fielding querstions
and advice. I was trying to be as specifically vague as possible :-)

Many people forget that I get paid a very pretty penny for my advice.

That leads me to my next point.

Familiarity Breeds

I’ve been told that I’m nice.  Sometime too nice. I guess that’s my
weakness at times.

I made a huge error that I will FIX immediately. I made an error that
I coach people on in business all the time. And as a matter of fact my
business mentor kicked me in the rear about making this business
mistake before and I did it again. Ask me why and my reply won’t be
any better than why I can’t find my wallet and keys every time I’m
ready to head out the door.

I swear my wallet and keys have made me late for church more than
anything else.

(As I digress….LOL let’s get back to the story).

Like I said I’ve been told and I will tell you.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER enter into a relationship without a written
agreement. No matter how sweet the deal is. At the end of the day you
will be left holding the towel and the baby oil.

As my friend Inga Willis says, “if you are cool enough to do business
without it, you are cool enough to do business with it.”

It Just keeps things clear and stops people from being delusional.

When you coach people, before your process is done, hell, when it
starts clients will become ornery, super-confident and empowered. Why?
Well, they now know things that they didn’t know before so now the
world looks so different to them.  They don’t understand the coaching
process, the doling out of information, or the method to the perceived
madness. But when you have been doing this as long as I have at such a
high level, with multiple successes, you’ve doggone near seen or have
heard everything.

But I understand its a process. Nobody misses water when the well is
full. You only miss the water when the well runs dry.

Its kinda like that person who is talking sh– while they are riding
in your car until you pull over and tell them to get out. LOL

Remember this my dear friends…. “Just when you think you’ve ‘got it’
is the precise moment when you really don’t. Kinda like when you feel
the fish nibbling on the bait but he aint on the hook. You think you
got ‘em, but you really don’t. IT JUST FEELS LIKE YOU DO!” If it were
that easy, we’d all be fishing on ESPN.  ;-)

I say it all the time…. “The eyes can ONLY see what the mind can comprehend.”

Many of you read about my life and what I do and I’m telling you right
now that I make mistakes and I have people who kick me in my backside
to get me in gear just like I kick yours in some of my emails and
blogs.

Now speaking of getting in gear……..

TOMORROW is the big day.

At 12:01am I will open up the floodgates on my coaching program.

I’m only letting 7 people in the door.

That’s it!

Wanna Know What Happened In My MMA Debut

First and foremost let me say this. I’m very appreciative off all the people who have helped me train and prepare for MMA from my team, American Top Team to the fellas down in Tampa at Gracie Tampa, to the folks in Suntree, Florida at Fighters Alley, my manager Ed Clay, mentor Winston Williams and all of those who have helped along the way.

I’m very grateful and humbled by your investment in me.

Now, you don’t really hear me talk about the Mixed Martial Arts side of things much because I don’t want the discussion or things to spiral out of control.

I’ve trained with many professionals.

Thiago Alves, Thiago Silva, Jeff Monson, Rich Antonito, Dan Henderson and many others and I’m telling you right now. I AM NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS THESE guys at the moment. And I MAY never be. I’m pretty decent at grappling, I’m learning striking and still learning how to be a chef in MMA and mix all of these ingredients together.

I continue to practice, train and get better. I RESPECT THE SPORT by training and preparing. I hope to get better and better and at 35 I’m racing against the clock. I understand this. My hope is that I can learn this craft fast enough so that I can attain some great achievements in this sport.

With that being said, the beautiful thing about this experience is that I’m CONSTANTLY learning, growing and developing as a trainer, coach, martial artist, cornerman and consultant. This is the key. Being at the top of your game in one area and then humbling yourself as a neophyte in a new sport is tough but satisfying, if you can push your ego aside. The great thing about MMA is that you can move your ego aside or someone can “move” it for you  LOL

I just want to say that I have the greatest amount of respect for those that step into the cage and/or ring and put it on the line whether its in the UFC, Strikefore, Japan or a small town in Altoona, Iowa.  Doesn’t matter.It takes a special mindset to step in the “terrordome” and go to war.

A couple of days ago, I told you about my return trip from the Bahamas and how I was coming back and had a layover in the Miami International Airport and was just shocked by the amount of overweight people I saw.

I also told you about my mother-in-law and how she’s lost over 40 pounds since coming to live with us.

In the medical community people have a longstanding argument about obesity. They question whether or not it is a disease.

Well I say it is.

I’ve never really been with somebody who is overweight before. Not for a long period of time. Not until my mother-in-law moved in with us. What I found out is that being overweight is no different than being addicted to crack or alcohol.  People don’t mean to over eat, they don’t mean to make bad food decisions, they are just addicted to a certain way of life and REALLY can’t change it without help or intervention.

They need group therapy, intervention, psychological help, coaching, etc.,.

I remember asking my mother-in-law recently, “Do you KNOW that drinking sweet tea is no good for you?”

She replied, “Yes.”

I then asked her, “Well, then, why do you do it?”

She said, “She said I need to satisfy my ‘sweet tooth’”.

What in the fart is a ‘sweet-tooth’?

And she said, “It reminds me of my grandmother.”

So there you have it.  She drinks a drink that causes her insulin to rise, will increase her weight and is absolutely no good for her because of a THOUGHT!!!

This is REAL and important to note because if she doesn’t change her THINKING she cannot change her weight.

What has her allowed her to lose weight in my home is that we think differently about food. This DOES NOT stop her from going to McDonalds and sneaking some Burger King every now and then. She does that. I DO NOT COACH her because she is my mother-in-law. I leave her alone and let her live, but she, as everyone else in my home has to follow the house rules and those rules are restrictive in terms of her personal behavior.

She is VERY aware that if she lives by herself, that she will put the weight on. She is out of control.

How can she control herself?

Well, the same way that you can.

Dear Coach Ferguson:
I have three kids, 8, 11 and 15. All of them are overweight and quite frankly I’m a little chunky myself. Will this video be good for all of us?

ANSWER
Answer: YES!! I would highly recommend that your children start out with using just a canned good. That’s right a simple can of food out of the cupboard in order to get used to the movements. The same rule that I apply to adults, I apply to children when it comes to training and that rule is to “follow the proper progression.” Don’t do too much too fast.

The key is to learn the movements, perform the movements properly and get the benefits from the exercises. While doing the circuits you and your family will see MASSIVE benefits in terms of strength development and weight loss. And I applaud you for taking a step in the right direction and recognizing that your family needs to get involved in an at-home exercise program.

Q: Rhadi is this video for big time athletes or for “us” regular folks too? I’m not trying to go to the Olympics, I just wanna tone up and drop a few, ya know?

ANSWER

A: I understand you loud and clear. If there is one thing that I really wanted to accomplish with this video project it’s to make sure that it is for everyone. For that reason I made sure not only to include the exercises, but to provide 10 circuits that get progressively difficult as you progress. That way you can find your current fitness level and select the circuit and/or exercises that best suit you and then govern yourself accordingly. And you can progress at your own pace.

How To Lose The Weight While Saving Money At The Same Time

Recently, I was in the airport in Miami and was so disgusted by what I saw.

Then I went from disgust to being sad.

Because I saw a host of overweight people, but what I began to see was not overweight people.

I began to see:

- Somebody’s mother
- Someone’s father
- Someone’s brother
- A best friend from college
- A lonely young man who longs for the companionship of a certain type of woman, but most likely will have to settle because of his low self esteem
- A girl who tell jokes and tries to be funny around her “thin friends” because she thinks that’s how they value her.
- People who are slowly killing themselves one fork at a time

As I started thinking, I got more depressed.

I’ve tried to help some of my family member to lose weight to no avail. Unless I sit down in their home and guard their heart and cholesterol levels, they will inevitably KILL themselves by their fast food and grocery store selections.

This makes me VERY sad and VERY angry.

I can tell you that I love you and I don’t even know you.

Why? Because of my religious beliefs I must love you and I do and that is why I do the job that I do.

WE all must leave this earth, but sprinting to the finish line is of no benefit in this discussion.

Somewhere, somebody NEEDS you.

They are going to need a word of encouragement from you, some advice, a pat on the back or a reassuring look.

You can’t give that if you are spending your time taking a deep breath before bending over to tie your shoes. Or deciding to buy the shoes with velco straps or sandals because you don’t want to lace up sneakers.

You can’t do this if you are taking so much time off your life riding from gate to gate at the airport because you can’t walk.

You are hurting yourself.

Here’s how to do it.

1. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY – stop eating out. No McDonalds, no Burger King, No Wendy’s, No Starbucks, No Dunkin Donuts, No In-and-Out Burger, NOTHING!!!

2. Want Starbucks coffee? go the grocery store and buy it. As a matter of fact. Go grocery shopping and start using your DARN BRAIN and start reading the labels instead of buying food with your stomach. If it has SUGAR in it. Put it back. Want something sweet, buy some sugar free popsicles and be done with it.

3. Cook your meals and buy containers. No more eating out at lunch. Bag it.

4. Everytime you think about eating out. Stop your car, write down what you wanted to eat and then tally up the cost. Do this for the next 6 months. THAT IS HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE SAVED YOU.

6. At 9pm SHUT THE EATING DOWN. STOP!!! Don’t “gas up” the car just to “park” it in the driveway. Eat a nice size breakfast. Eat like a king in the morning and more and more like a pauper as the day goes on. THIS IS EASY!!

7. I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO STARVE. What I’m telling you to do is to stop acting like you are an IDIOT!!! You KNOW EXACTLY WHEN YOU ARE EATING TOO MUCH AND THE WRONG THING. Stop acting like you don’t know any better. And please don’t get me started on these church folks that eat until they have to unbuckle their pants every Sunday evening after CHURCH. Cut it out!!!
Romans 12 reads that you are supposed to present your body as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable which is your reasonable service. Gluttony is a sin! Being overweight to the point where you have to go to sleep with a breathing machine and are making a conscious effort to continue to circle around the parking lot at the grocery store because you don’t want to walk far is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Nor is it REASONABLE. DO NOT GET ME STARTED.

This is not holy nor acceptable……

Don’t quote to me Phllipians 4:13 and then when I tell you to lose some weight and eat right respond with, “Oh I can’t do that.” YOU ARE A LIAR AND A FAKE!!!! Pray and believe God to help you and look at you choices the same way a drug addict looks at drugs.
(okay that concludes my message to the “chuuuch folx”)

8. Look, if you look around you, it is a fact that your friends have an influence on your net worth. As it is said, “your network, influences your net worth.” Rich people hang around rich people. Why? Well, they like to talk about money and things like that. They think differently. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, big people hang around big people.

Look at most of your friends. If they are overweight, you my dear or sir, NEED TO FIND A NEW GROUP to hang in. I’m telling your right now that in shape people hang around in shape people. Wrestlers hang around wrestlers. Boxers hang around other boxers, runners hang around runners. Triathletes hang around triathletes and in shape folks hang around in shape folks. LOOK, I know how uncomfortable it can feel being at the table with some healthy “eaters” and they look at you as you order. You can’t even enjoy your meal. GOOD!!! YOU SHOULDN’T!!! They are trying to help you by looking at you like that, even though its the wrong way to go about it.

9. Take this email “shoe” and swing it back and let it hit you in the rear end and get your @$$ in gear.

Let’s go.

Get in shape, save some $$$ and lose weight.
