Lessons Learned From Venus Williams
======================
A couple of days ago, I recorded a very powerful
video concerning “Encouragement and Support”.
If you didn’t see it, I would highly encourage you
to go here
I had soooo many positive emails about that video
that I had to follow up with another one that really
struck a chord with me. I recently watched Venus
Williams in the 2011 Australian Open in the sport
of Tennis and she was injured and had to pull out of
her 3rd round match. I was shocked and surprised
when I hear people “boooo” her as she left the court.
I was inspired to shoot this video.

Often times in life, we want help.
We want encouragement.
We want support.
We just want a boost in the right direction.
The question is, or I should say, the
questions are:
- When is our cry for help legitimate
- Is our cry for help legitimate
- What should we do for ourselves
- And should we expect someone to come to our rescue
I’m sure you can look at my life and see that
I am not of a subscriber of the welfare theoretical
framework, but I do agree with helping others, with
charity and with giving a hand up, NOT A HANDOUT.
Today’s Coffee With Rhadi addresses something
very powerful in the realm of personal change and
positive thinking.
It speaks to a think that is inherent in all of us: FEAR.
It speak about that thing which parlyzes many of us
from being successful.

YOU NEED TO DO in order to achieve higher levels
of success in your personal and professional life.
I certainly hope you take out the time today and

Here’s The Truth
===============
You HAVE the potential to do some great things in life.
You have greatness inside of you just kicking and screaming
to get out.
You know it.
I know it.
Your friends have told you this.
Your parents have told you this.
And that lil’ ole lady that you knew growing
up has told you this one time or another as
well.
So what’s holding you back?
==================
Ahhhh, you need some
support, huh?
==================
I remember listening to a gentlemen who was selling
some shoes in the shoe store and one of the
selling points that he explained to the potential
buyer is that the show provided GREAT support.
I thought about this.
I thought about this long and hard.
And here’s what I came up with.
ONCE YOU PUT THE SHOES ON – YOU’LL
HAVE THE SUPPORT THAT YOU NEED.
But until that time, all you are going to get is
encouragement to put on the shoes.
So when it comes to putting on the shoe
of a better education. YOU are going to have
to PUT the shoe on and then you will get
the support you need.
When it comes to eating better, you have
to change the people you are around,
the places that you frequent and purchase
different foods. When you do that. When you
put on THAT shoe, then you will get the SUPPORT
that you need.
When it comes to getting a better job, you must
first apply AND put yourself in a position to be
marketable. Put on that shoe first and THEN
you will get the support that you need.
STOP LOOK FOR A MotherChumpin’ HANDOUT!
There are none.
There are NO HANDOUTS in life.
There’s luck, there’s chance, there’s happenstance,
there’s preparation, there’s readiness and then there’s
action.
================
The REASON WHY
THE SQUIRREL DIES
================
Many of us have seen the squirrel that runs in the
middle of the road and the poor thing gets stuck
in a cognitive trap. It can’t decide whether to go
right, or go left or go right or go left. And it darts
back and forth all the while, the car is getting
closer and then SPLATT!!!!!
Yup! SPLATT!!
The SQUIRREL is doing what so many of you are
doing – A WHOLE BUNCH OF NOTHING!!!
You’re moving a lot, but you’re in the same
place.
MAKE A QUALITY DECISION FOR YOURSELF.
=================
Here’s Why You Are
Having A Hard Time
=================
I’m going to tell you right now why you are having
a hard time with making the decisions and moves
that YOU KNOW GOOD AND DARN WELL THAT
YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE.
It’s BECAUSE YOU ARE SCARED!!
And don’t go shakin’ your head “No”.
I know you are scared because I’ve been there.
I’ve been knee-deep in my dissertation process
as a doctoral student asking myself if I could actually
complete the paper before having a nervous breakdown.
I’ve lined up at the Olympic Games getting ready
to go out and fight the current number 2 Judo player in
the world and had to start having a conversation with my
legs to tell them to move because I was so paralyzed
that I couldn’t walk.
I’ve been so frightened by the possibility of failure that
I’ve just sat down and have done nothing.
I’VE DONE IT. It’s a constant battle for me.
I’m better at managing my Inner Chump and my Chump
Moments, BUT I STILL have them from time to time.
And right now I am very upset and a little bit sad because
no matter how hard I try to help you and convince you
of the things that you need to do in order to succeed,
it seems like there is a small faction of you who read
my emails who are acting like the squirrel I just mentioned.
Please, please, please STOP darting back and forth.
Make a decision and get out of the way! The car is coming
and time is running out.
Get the encouragement that you need so that you can
get the support that you desire.
Do both of us a favor, me and you and Get Your Hands
on Chump Repellent today. You will be glad that you did.

Introduction
===============
My son Rufus had his first Judo competition
this past Saturday on the January 15, 2011.
On Friday night I was getting somewhat concerned.
Here’s what made me nervous.
He was whining about how he did not want to
fight on Saturday and I am so concerned about
not forcing him into the sport of Judo that I told
my wife, “Hey, if he doesn’t want to fight, I don’t
think we should force him to fight.”
My wife looked at me and said, “No. We came
here and he’s going to fight, because in his
life there will be plenty of things that he doesn’t
feel like doing that he’s going to have to do!”
Whoa!!!!!
====================
The “Real Dr. Ferguson” had
just sprayed me with some
CHUMP REPELLENT!!
====================
Rufus was having a Chump Moment and then
the spirit of THE CHUMP jumped on me and
I started to have one and my wife straightened
me right out!!
I got silent and then said, “Honey, you’re right!”
And boy was she ever right.
=====================
The Day Of The Competition
=====================
On the day of the competition, we took 2 cars.
My mother-in-law, my wife and lil Rhadi were in
one car and Rufus and I in the other.
On the way to the tournament, Rufus
says, “Daddy, I’m going to beat them
down.”
LOL
I was laughing on the inside because the lil
fella reminds me of myself.
When we get to the tournament site and
start walking in the parking lot, little Rufus
says, “Daddy I’m gonna take them down and
then I’ma choke them.”
At which point, I say, “Hey, hey, hey. You can’t
choke at your age. No choking!”
Which he clearly doesn’t understand because people
his age in Jiujitsu learn how to choke and armbar,
but that’s another discussion :-/
So…… we get to the venue and Rufus has one
person in his weight class. So it’s a true double
elimination tournament.
Rufus will fight either 2 or 3 times.
This is GOOD for his first tournament. I don’t want
the lil’ guy to get overwhelmed.
During the day, I stay quiet. I allow his coach to
do the coaching. I DO NOT INTERFERE.
===================
PAUSE FOR A SLIGHT
RANT
===================
Because as a coach I know that there is NOTHING
WORSE THAN A PARENT WHO THINKS THAT THEY
KNOW MORE THAN YOU DO AND IS CONTSTANTLY
CHIRPING IN THEIR CHILD’S EAR about what it is that
they think you are doing wrong, what it is that they think
you don’t understand, or what it is that you don’t realize,
and what it is that they think you are missing.
IT IS ABSOLUTELY FRUSTRATING AND PISSES ME
OFF as it does MOST coaches. And I don’t want to
treat someone else like that.
Side note: If that is HOW you feel about the person
coaching your child – LEAVE!!!!! Coach your kid yourself.
You ARE not helping the process by constantly interjecting.
SHUT THE ——- UP AND LET THE COACH – COACH!
OR GO!!!
Okay…. I’ve made my peace.
==================
Back to the Story LOL
==================
So I stay out of the way and I just do the daddy thing
and I’m loving it. I just offer encouragement and
take pictures and video.
Rufus warms up with his team and his coach.
Rufus gets ready to compete.
They call Rufus to the line and I’m GETTING nervous.
It’s weird. I don’t get nervous walking into the cage to
put my life on the line, but I’m nervous when my son
is fighting. LOL.
And then my man Rufus does what he does best.
I’d love to explain it to you but I think it’s best that you
watch the video.

I’ve never had this feeling before. People were coming

with pride.
Hmmmm. I wonder what it must feel like to have your
kid graduate from college? Wow! That must be something.
Well, it was a great weekend. I’m very appreciative to

I’m super appreciative to my Mother-in-Law Sheila T. who

=======================
Greetings:
I hope you are having a wonderful day and that this piece of written articulation greets you as sunshine does on the face of a prisoner that has been in solitary confinement for a week…. with much awaited joy and anticipation LOL
In all seriousness, thank you for taking the time to read today’s electronic transmission, today is going to be a GREAT ONE!
Before I begin I would like to encourage you… we STRONGLY encourage you to get you hands on a wonderful product that will enhance your personal productivity. That product is Chump Repellent.
Before I begin today I’d like to share a testimonial about Chump Repellent which I received from a UFC Veteran, a BJJ Black Belt and a Martial Arts school owner, Din Thomas. If you have any question about who Din Thomas is just look at his fight record!
Here’s What UFC Veteran Din Thomas said about Chump Repellent:
“I have ALWAYS been a Dr. Ferguson supporter. He is one of the most knowledgeable individuals in MMA and he can match his credentials up with anybody and embarrass them (but always chooses the path of humility). I have purchased numerous educational products by Dr. Ferguson and have been pleased with all of them, but I think Chump Repellent is the best. I keep it on my ipod. I play clips of it during staff meetings. I even conduct fighter practices where we just sit down and listen to Chump Repellent. Its extremely powerful stuff. And in this competitive world, no matter what it is that you do, you need any advantage you can get on your competition. The motivation you will acquire from Chump Repellent is it” ~ Din Thomas
Okay…. now with that being said, let’s get on to the “meat-n-potatoes” of today’s email.
The question is…..
=====================
Is MMA Also Known As
Cagefighting Barbaric
=====================
Well, I need not tell you that as a person who MMA Announcer Mauro Ranallo said, “Has more degrees than a thermometer” that I get asked all the time, “What in the HELL are you doing fighting in the cage?”
Then the next statement is, “It just seems so violent. So barbaric!”
This statement and line of questioning occured with such frequency that I really had to sit down and ask myself…. “Is MMA Barbaric?”
I really didn’t bother with having a discussion concerning violence because let’s face it….
Hockey is violent…
Football is violent…
Rugby is violent…
Boxing is violent…
Judo is violent…
By definition many sports are VIOLENT. Hell, war is VIOLENT.
Now there are varying degrees of violence but, they are all violent or they have the propensity towards violence at some point due the the nature of the said sport.
But the question is…. “Is MMA or Cagefighting Barbaric?”
Well if you do a quick search on the internet you will read how former United States Presidential Candidate and Senator John McCain calls the sport “barbaric” and similar to “human cock fighting.”
You will even read how one of the sports stars and practitioners, Chael Sonnen, calls the sport of MMA “barbaric.”
This news reporting service out of Australia calls the sports “barbaric” and “repulsive”.
====================
I know right now
you are saying to
yourself, “So What!?!?”
But here’s what’s WHAT!
====================
By definition, the word barbaric means, according to Webster:
1
a : of, relating to, or characteristic of barbarians
b : possessing or characteristic of a cultural level more complex than primitive savagery but less sophisticated than advanced civilization
2
a : marked by a lack of restraint : wild
b : having a bizarre, primitive, or unsophisticated quality
Now, by definition MMA is NOT barbaric!
It IS VIOLENT.
It IS DANGEROUS.
There is an ELEMENT or hint of barbarism in it (but that only due to the lack of training of the practitioner)…
BUT BY DEFINITION, it is NOT barbaric!!!
=====================
But Dr. Ferguson, How
Can You Say That?!?!
======================
Well, the same way Jimmie Johnson can tell you that driving at 180 miles per hour is the norm while it is extremely dangerous and stupid to some people to drive a car that fast knowing that an accident at such speeds can cause death.
Well, the same way I can watch a football game and watch somebody get hit and knocked unconcious and reach my right hand back into the bowl of chips and dip, slap my boy a high five with my left hand and utter, “that’s part of the sport. Don’t run your ass across the middle next time on a zone defense. Sit down!”
Well, the same way I can watch 12 rounds of boxing with the anticipation for someone to receive brain trauma. (uhhhh, because you DO UNDERSTAND that getting knocked out is trauma to THE BRAIN!!!!! Not your head, YOUR FREAKING BRAIN!!!)
And it is not BARBARIC to those with a trained eye. Just as War is not barbaric. Because the sport of Mixed Martial Arts is VERY VERY COMPLEX. It is more complex than primitive savagery and sophisticated just as advanced as civilization. You CANNOT win or be successful or practice this sport if you lack restraint. And as a matter of fact, this sport INVOKES restraint in its practitioners.
And the QUALITY of sophistication is only readily available to the trained eye. Just as if you were watching the game of chess and you didn’t know how to play. You wouldn’t know if moves of the practitioners were “sophisticated” or not, but because you are familiar with the game of “chess” you would assume a high level of sophistication.
Well, for those who are NOT familiar with MMA, they make an assumption that there is not a high level of sophistication with the sport and they couldn’t be further from the truth. The science of MMA is just as “sweet” as boxing and although the sport is violent by nature, it is VERY FAR from being barbaric.
And those who call it barbaric are either one of two things:
(1) One, not familiar with the definition or the term barbaric, or
(2) Two, not qualified to speak on the sport with any hint or sense of authority.
Having an opinion is one thing…… HAVING AN INFORMED OPINION is another.
To understand Mixed Martial Arts you have to study it. You DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT to understand it. But to understand it you MUST study it. You cannot look at it for a split second and make your mind up about a sport that you bring an inherent or learned bias to its observation. You cannot do that. Nor can you speak amongst a group of people that believe in your thesis statement without any quality discourse. Such at thing is stupid and ignorant.
Mixed Martial Arts is definitely a sophisticated sport.
I do it. And I’m no academic slouch.
Rosi Sexton does it and she holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and quite honestly, Rosi is one of my heroes in the sport and it something that I look up to and really admire.
I do believe that she is the FIRST person to fight with a Ph.D. and I believe I’m the first male, in terms of fighting on television.
And she is SUPER SUPER smart because she has her kid practicing judo
CHECK OUT ROSI SEXTON!
Take care and have a super, fantastic day.

And all these things come with a hefty price. For the life of one that competes in sports is one of an emotional roller coaster. The “lows” are accepted as are the “highs”. What is not accepted from the athlete, the crowd, the coaches or fellow competitors is incompetence.
Sometimes winning or losing is a thing of chance and happenstance. Sometimes things, fortunately or unfortunately, “just happen.”
But what does not just happen is incompetence. Being incompetent is a choice. It requires you to bypass professionalism and look the other way. And this starts early in ones Mixed Martial Arts career.
Because I’ve recognized this as a coach, when I became a Mixed Martial Artists I did not want to make the mistake that I’ve seen so many people make and I don’t want you to make it either.
If you coach, train or know someone that does Mixed Martial Arts, you should pick up the phone and call them, or email them and text them after reading this piece of written articulation. What you are getting ready to read is one of key elements in order to be successful in Mixed Martial Arts.
The closest thing that we have to in order to look at Best Practices in a pugilist sport such as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), is boxing. It’s been around for a long time and is very well established. And the best boxer of all time is probably not a bad person to study or analyze when it comes to best practices. I believe this so I took the time and studied Muhammad Ali closer than I ever have before. As a matter of fact I re-read his book released in 1975, “The Greatest: My Own Story.”
On page 5 of that book Ali speaks about what a prizefighter must have in order to be successful. He speaks about how a prizefighter needs to be two people and in two places at the same time but cannot. He talks about the importance of having someone that thinks like you in terms of your goals and your aspirations. He speaks of one finding the “other self he needs.”
With this information I knew the missing link to most MMA preparation. The missing link to their fight camp. And the missing link to their preparation. They are missing someone to engineer the process of the preparation, coaching, and training.
WARNING: If you look at preparation in a myopic, small-minded sense, you are going to miss this richness of this article.
Unlike football or any other major team sports, there is no “Head Coach” in MMA. Each coach’s job is in flux in terms of importance depending on the needs of the fighter or the skill set of the next opponent. So saying that one is in “charge” is difficult. And trying to be the person in “charge” as the athlete sounds great, but you can’t see things clearly.
Therefore, what is needed is a Team Engineer.
A gentlemen by the name of Winston Williams is the best Mixed Martial Arts Team Engineer ever. And you should get someone like this. If you are going to be successful in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts you need someone that asks and demands the following from you:
1. Your training program
2. Your dietary schedule
3. Your daily mental training strategies
4. Your sleeping schedule
5. Your gameplan and plan of implementation
6. Your post weigh in meal, the time of its execution and the times of the subsequent meals before fight time (including the breakfast and lunch on the day of fight)
7. Your CELL PHONES (give them up and hand them over)
8. All of your interview times and schedules
And some other stuff that will just take too long to mention. But the key is this. You NEED to have someone that UNDERSTANDS the sport like you do or better. Someone that thinks like you, but is smarter than you and someone that can invoke the respect of the other members of your Mixed Martial Arts Team not by words but by deeds. By their ability to work.
Do NOT get this person confused. This person is NOT a manager. This person is NOT a coach. This person makes sure that EVERYTHING runs as it should and better.
In your camp or on your team. You definitely need striking coaches, grappling coaches and fitness trainers and strength coaches. And you ALSO need a Team Engineer. Those people are all ingredients. Your Team Engineer is the Master Chef!
Take care and have a super fantastic day.

P.S. The key to this is that it eliminate “gaps” and “holes” in your preparation process that you just wouldn’t see until the fight was over. With someone on the periphery that keeps things together, you coaches can actually coach and you can actually train. Everybody can spend time doing what it is that they do best. Hello. For those of you that do not know, on January 7th
I had my Strikeforce Debut on Showtime. I had a very
tough opponent and got a little bit banged up in the
process.
I apologize for not communicating with you as much as
I would have like, but I had to put myself on a media and
internet fast. I had to really focus and shut down much
of my usual communication.
However, the good news is this. Today I will tell you
all about the fight and what led up to the event and what
is going on after it.
P.S. As we begin the New Year, the most important thing is for you to
protect your mind from all negative thoughts, cognitive iterations and
visions. Stay positive, be positive and place yourself around positive
people. The way in which you can start that today is by Repelling
the Chumps from around you and from your life. You can do that with
