When you are tired beyond being tired…

When you are hurt past your threshold for pain….

When you can no longer hang in there and fight…

Or you believe your guns have no more bang….

When you think you’ve shot your last shot….

Or you’re almost down and out…..

Take a couple seconds and think….

That its okay to be down, but not out.

Take a deep breath…..

And just count to two…..

And remember the difference between being a CHAMP OR A CHUMP

How To Eliminate A Chump Moment…..

Auto Date Monday, February 26th, 2007

Coach Ferguson want to let you know that pushing at work, pushing in training, pushing at home and pushing through discomfort all require you to have a fixed radar on high achievement. If you want to be successful at anything that you do, you are going to need to have a “fixed mental radar” on your goals and the things that you want to achieve.

As a Coach, the hardest thing for me is to get my athletes and clients to move beyond being extrinsically motivated and to be intrinsically motivated.  As a Coach, you really have to coach and guide your athletes and provide them with good quality information and move away from being a motivator.

After a while you have to condition your fighter to rely on themselves in order to get “up” for a fight, session or task. Just look at the professionals. They don’t need to get externally hyped up in order to perform. They perform because its what they do and why they are professional.  They motivate themselves extrinsically.

Do  you think that Michael Jordan needed a pep talk? Do you think that Muhammad Ali needed someone to get him mentally ready?  Hell No!  They did it themselves. But it took them some time to do that.

Well, if you want to work on your professionalism then when you’re working out - take your Ipod or headphones off and just workout. Don’t get motivated by the music. Because when you have the perform, the Ipod won’t be there.

When you are studying, remove the snacks and extra food. You are there to study, not eat. And if you find yourself wanting to snack, it’s because you’re not concentrating hard enough on what you are studying.

You have to TAKE control of you. If you need some help in this area. No matter what you do, get your hands on The Inner Realm Package. Why? Well, first because its 100% Free and second because you will find out how to move from extrinsic motivation to intrinsic motivation.

Get your hands on it today –> www.theinnerrealm.tv  Heck, you can beat  it. Its free.

Ole Coach

P.S. Make sure you keep doing your pushups. In the next couple months I’m going to have a pushups contest and I want you to be ready. So start training now.

Don’t sweat the small stuff..

Something terrible happened today, but necessary. Someone died. It’s terrible because its a loss, but its necessary because its part of the process of life.

One of Coach Ferguson’s favorite basketball players died today. His name was Dennis Johnson. Dennis Johnson played for the Celtics and won two NBA Championships while with that franchise.  He was a great player and I really liked his style and his cool and calm demeanor on the court.

I know that I and the rest of the basketball world will miss him along with his friends and family.  DJ definitely wasn’t a CHUMP!

Such occurrences help all of us to keep things in perspective. Yesterday I spoke about the haters of the world and how you should be happy that you have them, and I repeat - YOU SHOULD. But don’t forget to enjoy your life. Don’t let the haters slow you down.

I know I talked about being immuned to criticism, but quite frankly that takes time for you to build up that wall of thickness. It took Old Coach a couple of years, but now I got it. I only wish that I had some of the tools that you are provided with like Accurate Thinking (www.accuratethinking.net) and things like The Gold Mettle Plan (www.goldmettleplanpackage.com) and products like The Inner Realm (www.theinnerrealm.tv

Such things would have sliced and cut years off my learning curve, but they weren’t available then. I had to learn the hard way. But now I just “knock the dirt off my shoulder” and keep going.

As a matter of fact, I got so many email after yesterday’s post that I thought I’d offer up what a little bit of Coach Ferguson’s life is like when he is playing and when he is working. So for all of  you Chumps reading this, you can click on the video below and see Ole Coach hanging out with Ice Cube, AJ Calloway, Dorian Yates, Ricco Rodriguez, Jeff Monson, Tim Sylvia, Kevin Randleman, Tyson Beckford, Jay Cutler, Karo Parisyan, Marcus Aurelio, James “Buster” Douglas, Mario Yamasaki, Dana White, and many others, while chilling and working.

Enjoy the behind the curtain view in the life of Ole Coach and remember. It’s the haters job to HATE!! LET THEM DO THEIR JOB!

“Coach Ferguson, they were talking about me” :-(

Auto Date Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

I want to talk to you about one of the greatest things that you have to understand if you are going to be successful. Once you DECIDE that you want to be a champ and not a Chump you have to realize that there will be a group of chumps out there who will no longer like you, who won’t want to be around you and who won’t be able to understand the new championship practices that you have to put in place and adhere to because you want to be a champ.

They will be upset with you, they will talk about you, they will dislike you……and as the young folks say, They will HATE on you.

You know what - F— ‘Em!!  No really!  Those people are usually jealous or not helping you. Because anyone who wanted to help you, would pull you to the side and provide you with some helpful words of advice.

People who usually talk about you are really just trying to get alot of other people to feel the way they do and when they can’t accomplish that right away, then they keep trying until they find fellow Chumps to hate with.

That’s cool. Let me share this with you.

When people talk about you, get excited. Because YOU are something to talk about. There are 24 hours in the day and we only have a limited amount of hours and minutes in our life and when someone chooses to spend them on you, they must believe and know that you are important. And you have to understand that people don’t talk about “nobodys” they talk about “somebodys”.

And the main thing that you need to do is understand that CHAMPS ARE IMMUNE TO CRITICISM!! Immune.

Ole Coach is immune to criticism. It doesn’t bother Ole Coach ONE BIT. I don’t lose no sleep or nothing. As a matter of fact, I like it and you should too.

Just keep pushing and keep moving. As you do - they’ll keep hating.

If you ever want to know how good you’re doing, just count your haters.

Paris Hilton has millions of them.  :-)

Take Care chumps,

Ole Coach

Some of you Chumps Really need to understand this….

Auto Date Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Before you have a Chump moment, more often than not you have to agree to have a chump moment. The sad sad truth about being a chump is that it is usually a CONSCIOUS decision to be a Chump.

And the reason why we know this is because after you’ve had a Chump moment, most people admit that they could’ve probably “toughed it out” or “just held on a lil’ longer”.

You don’t have to be a Chump. The hard thing that some of you Chumps don’t understand its really easy to be a Chump and it’s easy to be a Champ. The hardest thing is in convincing yourself that you are a Champ. Once you do that, you’ve got this thing licked.

It’s easy to do all you have to do is check out my man Rhadi Ferguson’s Accurate Thinking program –> www.accuratethinking.net

He really covers the things that you need to have in order to think accurately about yourself, your career and how you can become a Champion.

Take care and remove the chump platelets out your blood,

Ole Coach

Have you ever noticed when you’re hurt, you do this….

Auto Date Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Have you ever seen the look in animal’s eyes when they are. They either have one or two looks. Either they have a look of concession, where they will welcome death and defeat. Or they have a piercing look of focus and vitality, wherein they recognize their injury but accept the will to live and continue.

This look is that same look and attitude that you and/or your team need to have when you are hurt or injured.  I have seen many CHAMPS catch a small injury or a wittle-bitty cold and they fold up like the underwear in my top drawer and turn into complete CHUMPS!!  Now don’t get Ole Coach wrong, I’m not saying that if you are hurt that you should rest.

I’m all for rest and recuperation. But what I don’t like is when people bitch-up and turn into Chumps when they are faced with a tiny bit of adversity.  That’s the time when you need to get the (I hate to say it, but) eye of the tiger. I know it sounds “Rocky Balboa-ish” but its the perfect phrase for this situation.

The hard part is turning a Champ into a Chump when you’re coaching.  Or taking a group of Chumpions and turning them into Champions.  This is COACHING.  Anyone can read a book, watch a  tape and recommend 3 sets of 6 repetitions of Power cleans or come up with some “catch phrases” of functional training, hybrid training, high-intensity training, Complex Training, The Conjugate System and a lot of other bullsmith. But those are tools - Coaching is a craft. And Ole Coach has got the coaching thing licked.

In my next post I’m going to discuss some of the current trends in coaching.

Until next time Chumps,

Ole Coach

Coaching…..

Auto Date Saturday, February 17th, 2007

From the post below you can see that Coaching has more to do with just exercise selection and yelling and screaming.  Admittedly, you MUST know your shyt, but you must also know that there is more than one way to skin a cat.  Some people think that touching your nose and standing on one foot hopping over a tin can is coaching, but that isn’t coaching.

In coaching you have to coach the WHOLE athlete. Coaching extends beyond the weightroom and the field. It requires you to be an outside-of-the-box type thinker so that you can get more out of your athletes and clients. Having a great deal of knowledge about education, strength training, conditioning, engineering, physics and teaching and learning is no doubt beneficial, but there is nothing like having ears that are willing to listen, a heart that is ready to be compassionate and an eye looking for the “good” in every situation.

As a coach, THIS is what will allow you to be an optimist instead of a pessimist. This will allow you to see, find and create an opportunity to win when everyone else believes that you will lose.

This is why the good book says that when you are weak, then are you strong.

Because in your weakness you can see THE CHAMPION you want to be while recognizing the CHUMPION you have become.

Next time your back is against the wall in the gym, on the field, in the dojo, on the court or in the classroom, REMEMBER…. in your weakness you are at your strongest…..

More on this later……..

READ BELOW — ANSWER — AND WIN!!!

About 10 years ago, there was a huge campaign by Nike with Spike Lee and Michael Jordan. As a matter of fact it was one of the best shoe campaign ever and it launched the Nike and Air Jordan line into the stratosphere.

The whole campaign was surrounded around Michael Jordan’s magic ability being hooked to his shoe line. Well, even today children believe that if they take a pill, wear a shoe, get a shot, use a special device, etc.,. they will be better of get better.

I’ve found a couple of things that do help, but one of the major thing that you really need to win is belief that you can win.

You see Chumps lean and depend on bullshyt to get things done.

I was listening to two kids yesterday and the one was telling the other that the reason why his friend beat him in a race in the street was because he didn’t have on his “fast” shoes. He said that he left his “fast” shoes at home. And while overhearing him I interjected into the conversation.

I said, “Hey lil’ chumperelli, did you just say, you left your fast shoes at home?” He said, “Yep.”

I said, “So the shoes that you have now are your slow shoes?” He said, “Well, sorta.”

I pulled him to the side and told him, “Let me tell you a secret.  See shoes really slow you down. If you look at all the animals in the jungle, they’re really fast, and they ain’t got on no shoes. So if you take these shoes off and race your friend in the grass over there. I guarantee you’ll beat him.”

So the lil’ boy got hyped up and told his friend. “Let’s race again and this time, I’m gonna beat you. But we gotta race in the grass, not in the street.”  So his friend says, “It doesn’t matter where we race, I’m still gonna kick your butt!”

So we all walked over to the grass and they were side by side and I was at the end of the field to call the race and pick the winner. I said, “On your mark……….. Set………”  And that’s when my little friend said, “Wait!! I’m gonna take off my shoes!”  The other kid looked bewildered.

So he took his shoes off and I started again, “On your mark, set, GO!”

My lilttle friend took off like a bat outta  hell and beat the pants of this kid.

And there are a couple of reasons why he won.

I’ve got $100 for the person who can give me the reason(s) why he was able to win.

I will send the money to you via paypal.

As a matter of fact, I have $100 for the top 3 answers placed by individuals. That’s $100 a piece.

Hint: There’s a PHYSICS reason, a PSYCHOLOGICAL reason, and a COGNITIVE reason.

Test your coaching skills!

So today I had to speak at this church?

Auto Date Monday, February 12th, 2007

It was quite fun, but I was kinda upset at the high level of apathy. You’d think that people go to church to re-energize, to re-charge, and to get reinvorgorated. Ohhhh, but not these people. They were there to complain to each other and talk about how ‘baaaaaaaad’ they got it. They weren’t there to do better, they were there to commiserate.

When I was speaking to them, they were “feeling” what I was saying. They were nodding their heads in agreement. They “down”, but when I finished speaking they went right back to the apathetic behavior that they were exhibiting before I got there.

I found out that some people don’t really WANT to be helped and some people do. So if you are a church going person like Ole Coach and you find yourself in the same position, doing the same thing, and in the same lot in life, then there’s one of two problems at work. Either you are the problem or you need to find a new church. And in line with that…… a new peer group, a new work situation, and a new group of constituents.

When you find that you are the smartest person in your group, then its time to get a new group.

When you find that you are in a “rut” and there’s no new growth…… YOU need to “plant” your bottom elsewhere.

I hope you got that. And Chumps COMPLAIN - Champs - FIX!!!
Fix it CHUMPERELLIS!!

Coach Ferguson
