It was once said that:

“In the War Between the River and the Rock, the River wins through perseverance.”

It is my tender hope and desire that you all understand that sometimes the key to making “it” in life sometimes lies in the ability to sit there and take “it”.

Many times battles are won because one party just refuses to quit, refuses to give up, refuses to relinquish power, and refuses to back down or give way.  Today I read about one such person. I read about a lady named Nola Ochs.

Her story was inspiring and it was one that I thought I’d share with some of you Chumps so you can get your phukin’ act together and stop bytchin’, complainin’ and whinin’.

This lady Nola Ochs is 95 years old and she’s getting ready to break a world record. That’s right a World Record. She is going to be the oldest person to ever graduate from College.

Now that’s perseverance. Think about how it must have felt to be the oldest person in the class amongst teenie-boppers. Think about what it was like to hustle and get to class, to study and to hand in assignments on time as a 95 year old.

Not only did she start, but she also finished.

So if an ole lady cand go to school and finish I’m sure you can too. If she can stick to it and get it done, then you can too.

Nola Ochs ain’t no Chump. And you don’t have to be one either.

Ole Coach ran into some dude called The Strength and Conditioning King and he asked Ole Coach to give him a shout out on the blog, so I am.

One of my former clients recently made a decision that he no longer wanted to train with Ole Coach. So he got fired, or I got fired. Who knows…

Why?

Well, Ole Coach told him the following:

It was and is always my position that I will do the best for you and it always has to be your position that you will do the best for yourself. The journey to the Olympics is not something that you can do part time. It’s not every four years, it’s everyday.

Please allow this piece of written articulation to serve as your final notice in terms of my expectations of you as an athlete. Your adherence to the imperatives in this letter should not be difficult if you are willing to make the sacrifices of being a high level and professional athlete. Being a professional athlete doesn’t have anything to do with the money you are afforded or not, it has everything to do with governing yourself as a professional.

Now, Ole Coach knows this is regular shyt, but some people really seem to have a problem with understanding that having a Coach means that you have to listen to and respect the Coach, otherwise get another Coach. Well, this particular athlete told Ole Coach that he wanted to go in a “different direction”. He did not want to follow the imperatives listed by Ole Coach. So guess what? Someone else came along who wanted to work with Ole Coach and that person ended up beating the guy that jumped shipped! Take care, Ole Coach

Has everyone lost their mind?

Really. After the Don Imus fiasco some young Chump decides to do the most cowardly act of all. He shoots and kills people who are unarmed and then makes sure that he doesn’t have to pay the price for what he’s done.

Look, if you have a problem with someone, just do what I do. Get up in their face and say, “Look I have a serious problem with you. Here’s the list of beans that I have to pick with you!”

And then square things out.

But please don’t get a gun and shoot people and kill them. This is ridiculous.

Just think how many potential mothers, fathers, doctors, lawyers, policemen, good neighbors, and all around good people this guy snubbed.  He could have possibly killed the young man or woman who was going to find and discover the cure for AIDS, he could have possibly killed the woman who was going to bear the child of the world’s next Olympic Champion.
This is a tragedy on all fronts. But the real tragedy is that it may have been able to be prevented. If you have reason to believe that one of your friends or loved ones may be depressed, make sure that you let someone know. On another note, I’m happy to report that  Virginia Tech will provide posthumous degrees to all of the shooting vicitims.

I must truly apologize for not posting in a while but I have a VERY good reason. I have not, did not and really did not want to comment on the Don Imus situation.

Just in case you have been hiding in a cave for the past 2 weeks, Don Imus is the man who called the African American female basketball player on the Rutgers Basketball team some “Nappy Headed Hoes”. Now you all know that Coach Ferguson is “off the cuff”, “off the chain” and sometimes really “over the top” but at the core of my message is high achievement and help for you to get there.

I understand that Don Imus is an entertainer and he provides hard and soft news and commentary on his show and I can understand that. What I can’t understand is racism or racist comments. Now I’m no idiot, I know that the terms that he used are used colloquially by African Americans, Latino Americans and in some circles European Americans as well, BUT!!!! (and that is a big but…..)

Although things are right and wrong, “right” or “wrong” sometimes has a lot to do with the context.  For instance, it’s not right to walk outside in cold weather and say, “Shyt it’s cold out here.” It isn’t. I mean, there are alot of words to use and shyt probably isn’t the best one to select. However, I use it and many do to. So it’s wrong, but its okay in that sense. Now if you walk into church and the air conditioning has been on for a while and its cold in there, it would be VERY wrong for you to enter into the church house and say, “Shyt, it’s colder than a muphuka in here!” 

Your statement, although allowable would be CLEARLY out of context for the environment and you would be deemed, marked and fingered as crude, uncouth and lacking good judgement. Herein lies my argument.

I’m not saying Don Imus is right or wrong for saying what he said. I know plenty of folks who say things in their homes, in the privacy of their homes, that they WOULD not want broadcasted on the air.  Such conversations would be out of context.

Now it isn’t Coach Ferguson’s job to tell Don Imus what is right or wrong. I could only tell you what I would do. And the truth of the matter is, I would have never made the mistake that Don Imus made, but I’ve made some mistakes in my life.

And although I was upset and angry by the comment, I understand that there is more POWER in forgiveness than ANGER. And I’m Coach Ferguson, I’m not the Almighty, but if God can forgive someone when they apologize, then so can I.

So even though I get upset and angry. I have to understand that I, Coach Ferguson, make mistakes too and that my football coach was wrong when he said, “People don’t change, they just get older.”

• I believe that people can change.
• I’ve seen people have a heart attack, change their lifestyle, behaviors and choices and live longer because of change.
• I’ve seen people go to prison and come out with a renewed understanding and value for freedom.
• I’ve seen promiscuous teens grow up to rear children in a loving family and settle down with one partner.
• I’ve seen F students turn around and become physicians. I have seen athletes who walked on to the same football team that I played on in college, enter into the NFL and START in the Super Bowl and win Super Bowl Ring.
• I’ve seen people who were labeled as “losers” become “winners”.
• I’ve seen Chumps turn their life around and become Champs.
• I write this blog because I BELIEVE IN CHANGE.  I believe in the word “CAN”, I believe in HOPE I believe that people can do better, be better and get better. I believe in LOVE not in HATE.

I really feel and empathize with the women on the Rutgers Basketball season. They had one of the best seasons in the history of their school’s program and their season will be forever marked with this instead of them going down in history as the 2nd best team of the 2006/2007 season.

They will be known as the team which Don Imus called the athletes “Nappy Headed Hoes”.

That can’t be fixed, but what we can do is learn from the mistakes of others, from our own mistakes and remove as many “Chump” situations from our lives as possible and do what’s necessary to be a “Champ”.

STOP buying exercise videos in order to watch them like a phuking video/editing critic. Pop in the damn DVD or tape and EXERCISE. I can’t tell you how many clients that I have who have purchased DVDs and tapes and have literally talked about the hairdo of the woman on the left of the trainer or that they didn’t like the DVD because it was shot with a home camera or they didn’t like that fact that the man on the tape was wearing makeup.

SHUT THE PHUK UP AND EXERCISE!!!!!!!!

Do the exercises and lose weight. Who in the hell do  you think you are?  The gatekeeper for the Golden Globe awards? Steven “Chumpin” Spielberg?

Grab, the tape, and do the exercises.

Turn off the American Idol and do the exercises.

Stop watching Tyra Banks get fat and so some exercise.

I don’t really know this dude that well, but from what I’ve heard, a lot of folks have lost a great deal of weight using this workout. The best thing is that right now its FREE.

Every week now, Chumps and Chumpinas all over the Globe tune in to catch their country’s version of The American idol. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to talk about the American Idols. I truly believe that their are some talented people on there who are pursuing a dream.

But what in the hell are you Chumps doing watching it?!?!?!

Instead of sitting in front of that idiot box, watching somebody else make their dream happen, why don’t you turn that thing off and start pursuing your dream, and start now.

And don’t give me any of this “I get inspired when I watch it”

Well if you’re so damn inspired, what have you done? Nothing! That’s right, nothing Chump. And it only takes 1 or 2 episodes to get inspired, not the whole damn season.

So to all my American Idol watchers……You’re a bunch of Chumps!! And you don’t need Simon to talk shyt to you, you can come right here and I’ll do it for you.

Simon is a cool dude anyway. He tells it like it is and so do I.

Oh, one more thing…. If you do decide to watch that show, at least start doing some pushups doing the commercials so you can spend your time wisely.

Tonight I had some young Chump over at my house and he was talking tough so I told him to show me how tuff he was and to get down on his face and to give me 10 pushups - ONLY 10!!  This young kid was 9 years old and he couldn’t even do 10 pushups. What in the hell is going on?

If I would have had this young man in my Phys Ed. class back in the day, he would have been able to pump 20 out with no problem. This kid’s upper body strength was down right embarrassing.

I can’t believe this is the norm for young children today. Someone please tell me that this isn’t normal. I will have to ask the Strength and Conditioning King is this is the norm today. I certainly hope not.

To be honest with you I felt bad for his mother - it was a sad display for a young man. He is on the path that leads to the land of Chumps.

Wherever you are - right now put yourself on a pushup program. Bang out at least 20-30 before you get in to bed at night and have your kids bang out at least 10-20.

Since they no longer have physical education in school - it’s the least you can do.
